Summary

This program offers micro grants in amounts ranging from $250 to $1,000 to support creative, grassroots projects centered on connecting people with nature through journaling, art, science, and community. The goal is to seed new ideas, expand outreach, and help communities engage more deeply with nature, especially by training educators, hosting events or workshops, developing online tools or publications, and growing nature-journaling clubs or networks.

These grants are open globally, not limited to any particular U.S. state or country, so long as the proposed work advances nature‑journaling or nature connection in some capacity. Individuals anywhere may apply. Nonprofit organizations, small groups, or educators can also be eligible, provided the project is proposed as a grassroots, community‑oriented effort. Business applicants are less clearly emphasized, since the focus is on outreach, learning, and community engagement—not commercial activity.

Funded uses may include purchasing or creating materials, acquiring equipment, covering time for teaching or development, or other costs directly tied to implementing the proposed project.

Applicants are required to complete their work within six months of receiving the award. The grant is disbursed in two parts: half upfront, and the remainder after submission of a report (with photos, receipts, and narrative of what was done). About 20 micro grants are awarded each year, typically in two cycles.

The benefits include both financial support and increased visibility: recipients get modest funding to launch or expand projects, gain credibility, and often receive promotion through the grant’s community channels. The intent is to help emerging efforts take root, reach underserved audiences, and inspire growth of nature‑journaling practices in places that currently lack them.

This grant may be available to individuals and organizations in Nebraska that are actively involved in Science, Technology Research & Development. To locate more funding opportunities in your field, visit The Grant Portal and search by interest area using the Search Grant tool.
